Jimbows Juniors was founded in 2015 when there was a need for youth classes in the Calgary area. Founded by Dawn Groszko and Jim Johnson.
Our team is made up of certified coaches with years of experience. We have coaches for all athletes from beginner to international competitor. As well as support staff and crew of volunteers like no other.
First and foremost we thank Jim-Bows Archery Calgary. We work with the sanctioning bodies for archery locally and nationally. We support Archery Alberta and the Alberta Bowhunters Association, as well as Archery Canada
Our nonprofit organization is committed to improving archery for the youth in our province and beyond. We offer classes for ages 10 and up who are looking to learn or improve their skills in the sport.
We offer lessons for the youth on select Saturdays throughout the winter months (Oct-Apr). The classes are an hour long and help teach the athlete the proper form and techniques to become a skilled archery weather your are just looking to have fun, compete or head out and hunt. We currently have 8 certified coaches that work with the athletes.
Our regular Saturday classes have 3 times on select weekends. (9/10:15/11:30) Each class is 1 hour long. Each term is 8 classes, and we run two terms between October and April. The classes usually have 12 athletes per class so that we can make sure everyone is getting the proper coaching and attention they deserve. We have 6 certified coaches that are in with the athletes depending on the weekend. We have all levels of coaches from introductory to comp-dev for the high calibre athlete.
Additionally athletes are encouraged to practice outside of class. We have a few programs that help with this. We count all arrows the athletes shoot through the season, the archers keep track and are rewarded for achieving certain volumes. We also have a badge system for showing off their achievements that they make in class (score based) This mimics a system that is used across the country.
We highly recommend that anyone in this class have their own equipment. Minimum requirements are a Bow, 6 arrows, Release/Tab/Glove. These item cost can be anywhere from $250 and up depending on style of bow and equipment you desire.
The costs of the classes are as follows: Membership: $75 for juniors. This is required for all athletes to have insurance and participate in the program. Classes: $200 for one session, $350 for both sessions. If you don’t have your own equipment we do offer rentals. $200/ recurve, $300/compound for a season (16 classes). We do a yearly fundraiser to help with costs of the programs and upgrade the equipment we use at tournaments we run. If the archer doesn’t participate in the fundraiser, we do require a $100 fee be paid to the club. There are club jerseys and swag available for purchase at time of class registration as well.
