Archers Rules, Standards & Code of Conduct:
Archers shall conduct themselves to reasonably comply with the following:
1. Be diligent in pursuing the sport of archery
⮚ Attend the archery lessons regularly and punctually
⮚ Cooperate with everyone authorized by the JJAC to provide the archery programs and other activities.
⮚ Comply with the rules of the JJAC and Jim-Bows Archery
⮚ Account to the coaches for conduct
2. Safety / Listening / Being Aware of your surroundings rules:
Safety will always be the number one priority at the archery lanes
⮚ No running when retrieving your arrows or coming back to the line after retrieving them
⮚ No touching of an arrow on the “shooting line” until “CLEAR” is called out for shooting
⮚ No crossing of the “line” to retrieve arrows unless “Clear” is called out,
⮚ No pulling arrows out of the target, unless it is clear (nobody standing behind you)
⮚ No pulling back a bow without an arrow and letting go of the string
2. Never physically, verbally or emotionally harm, hurt, humiliate or intimidate another archer, coach, parent or official.
3. Arrive 10 minutes before classes start: as this allows time to:
⮚ Take off your coat and possibly change shoes
⮚ Set up your equipment
2. All archers are expected to listen to their coaches and to what is going on around them. We do encourage the kids to ask questions or bring up concerns they have.
3. It is the archer’s responsibility to get to the line for shooting, without being prompted by the coaches.
4. Clothing:
⮚ WEAR comfortable clothing; club shirt, t-shirts (long or short sleeve)
⮚ DO NOT wear hoodies or baggy, bulky clothing in class as it could pose a danger in getting caught in your equipment.
⮚ Do NOT wear long or dangly jewelry or scarves for shooting.
⮚ Do NOT wear tank tops, low cut shirts, short shirts
⮚ Closed toed shoes must be worn at all times by all persons in the archery class (archers, coaches, parents, siblings, visitors, etc.)
5. Sleep: ensure you get a good night’s sleep the night before. Helps with focus and energy.
6. Drinks and food: Archers are only allowed to have water during class. The water can be brought from home or purchased prior to class. Only exception will be on fun days, when other beverages or food might be supplied. Please in ensure the archer has had a nutritious breakfast prior to class. No sharing of water bottles.
7. Bathroom: Archers will ask to use the bathroom, so the coaches know where they went.
8. DO NOT TOUCH equipment that is not your own without asking permission.
9. No crawling under, hanging or swinging on the bow racks; a good bump could cause a bow to come crashing to the floor and cause extensive damage.
10. NO Junior Archers behind the counter of the Pro-Shop and no one except for Coaches and/or Pro-Shop personnel in the work area of the shop.
11. Cell phone use: phones are to be turned off or silent and stored either with the parent/bow case/jacket/ pocket/purse. Any child caught using their phone during class will be questioned as to why. If the why is not reasonable; the phone will be taken away and returned after class. If the child needs to contact a parent during class, the archer will ask a coach.
12. In light of the upcoming flu season, please stay home if you are not feeling well. Sharing is nice but not when it is the flu.
13. Archers are expected to meet basic hygiene requirements for class. This includes maintaining cleanliness by bathing, clean clothing, brushing teeth, using deodorant, no perfume or colognes and washing of hands after using the washroom or eating.
Parent Expectations, Standards & Rules:
1. Read the attached document “Release your Child to the Game!”
2. Upstairs: unless you are volunteering; ALL PARENTS need to stay downstairs during lesson time. While we would like to encourage parents to watch, our space is limited. The classes will be restricted to coaches, archers and parent volunteers. Please ask if you want to check out the class for 5 minutes from the door.
3. Cooperate with all participants involved with archery. This includes archers, officials, coaches, other parents and spectators.
4. Never physically, verbally or emotionally harm, hurt, humiliate or intimidate your archer, another archer, coach, parent or official.
5. Parent volunteers that are upstairs: we are going to be enforcing the “parents off the line” if your are upstairs volunteering. If you are a coach, you have to coach archers assigned to you and not soley be focused on your archer during class. While we understand you are trying to encourage your archer and give them “pointers” you may actually be causing a distraction to your own archer or that of another. MOST IMPORTANTLY, you are creating a safety issue by the congestion occurring on the line.
6. Arrive 10 minutes before classes start: as this allows time to:
⮚ Take off their coat and possibly change shoes
⮚ Set up their equipment
7. DO NOT drop your archers off in the parking lot: Due to safety issues and a past experience, please DO NOT drop your junior archers off in the parking lot and leave - please come in with your archer(s) to ensure there is a class that day BEFORE you leave to run errands, etc. If you are leaving, please ensure you return a minimum of 10 minutes prior to the end of their class to pick-up them up. Jim-Bows Juniors is not culpable for children left when there are no classes. If you are going to be running late, please talk to a coach to ensure it is okay for a late pick up.
8. In light of the upcoming flu season, if your child is not feeling well, please keep them home both for their health and that of the others.
9. Sleep and nutrition: ensure your archer has had a good night’s sleep and has had a nutritious breakfast prior to class. This helps with the archers focus and energy.
